The article deals with the current home and foreign electronic means of education in philology that can be
resorted to in the academic process. It is found out what open course ware materials are employed in teaching
linguistic disciplines in the system of basic and additional education. Academic subjects of translation orientation
in the curricula of foreign universities are analyzed. Pedagogical problems of teaching foreign languages which
can be solved with the help of informational technologies are distinguished. The vision of using the electronic
means of education to train translators and to improve their professional skills is suggested, the goals and role of
the on-line courses, blogs and podcasts at the lessons and in the independent students’ work are defined, the ways
to integrate Internet resources into an academic process are pointed out.
