History of journal
The history of the journal "Philological treatises" begins with the creation of the scientific journal "Bulletin of Sumy State University" in 1994. At that time, the magazine was published twice a year and consisted of five sections:
- natural sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics;
- mechanical engineering, new technologies;
- automation, electronics, instrumentation;
- biology, medicine;
- economics, social and humanitarian sciences.
The editor-in-chief of the journal was Professor Kovalev Ihor Oleksandrovych, who at that time held the position of rector, and his deputy was the vice-rector for scientific work, associate professor Hvorost Volodymyr Andriyovych.
With the development of the university, its main scientific journal also developed confidently, the publication's popularity among educational and scientific institutions of Ukraine increased. Publications by authors from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Cherkasy, Ternopil, and Donetsk became regular. The volume of the scientific journal has grown significantly, and since 2001, the "Bulletin of Sumy State University" has been published 12 times a year. At that time, the magazine consisted of six series, and each issue was devoted to only one specific topic. Since 2007, each of the series has received the status of a separate publication with the appropriate name:
- "Bulletin of Sumy State University". Philological sciences series";
- "Bulletin of Sumy State University". Medicine Series";
- "Bulletin of Sumy State University". Economy Series";
- "Bulletin of Sumy State University". Technical Sciences Series";
- "Bulletin of Sumy State University". "Physics, mathematics, mechanics" series.
Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Bulletin of Sumy State University. The Philological Sciences series, which was now published twice a year, became Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Translation Shvachko Svitlana Oleksiivna, and her deputies were Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Translation Kobyakova Iryna Karpivna and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Journalism and philology Olena Hryhorivna Tkachenko.
The journal was included in the list of subscription publications of Ukraine (index 988772). Abstracts of the articles printed in the journal were submitted to the reference edition "Zherelo", the journal had an electronic version on the websites of Sumy State University and the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library.
In 2009, in connection with the new official requirements for scientific journals, the need to train scientific and pedagogical personnel in philological sciences at Sumy State University, a decision was made to establish a joint publication V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and Sumy State University - Scientific magazine "Philological treatises".
The editorial board, headed by Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Olena Hryhorivna Tkachenko, underwent a significant renewal. In 2019, the journal moved to the new Open Journal Systems platform.
With the aim of raising the scientific level and integration of the scientific journal "Philological Treatises" to the global international space, from July 2022, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Journalism and Philology Zhylenko Iryna Rudolfivna became the editor-in-chief of the journal. A set of measures aimed at increasing the level of citation of articles, the readership, the number of articles in English and the involvement of foreign authors in the publication of articles was developed.
