Abstract

The article deals with author’s opinions about historical development of Ukraine, mistakes and sometimes
criminal actions of the Ukrainian government in giving preference to economic development rather than spiritual.
It considers P. Zahrebelnyi’s attitude to absurdities and crimes of totalitarian regime, a number of shameful
events, such as migrant workers, lie, disrespect for moral and cultural values – all of this based on writer’s
complicated life experience, historical thinking, great erudition and expressed in a sharp and emotional way. The
research focuses on writer’s cautions against immigration to Europe, national negligence both at state and human
levels, attitude to language, and prioritization of consumer needs of society. The work also considers an
autobiographic aspect of the book in which the author is presented as observant, categorical and uncompromising
in criticizing social shortcomings.
