Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the phased formation of the Ukrainian autobiographical novel’s main genre
features. The author of the article analyses novels «Childhood» by Yurii Smolych, «Without Roots» by Natalena
Koroleva and «Charmed Desna» by Olexandre Dovzhenko as the most representative patterns of this genre.
Documentary autobiographical basis, fictionalization of narration, presence of one principal and some supporting
characters, predominance of static components such as description, reflection, monologue, dialogue, polylogue,
identity of author and principal character and others were principal genre signs in the Ukrainian autobiographical
novel of the XXth century.
