In this article the attempt to summarize the points of view of modern linguists on the problem of the definition
of a typology of one-member sentences as an important structural and communicative unit, which is used in
various spheres of human activity was made.
The wide range of terminology in the scientific sphere of the syntax scientists who studied the nature and the
essence of one-member sentences is investigated. The classifications of the dominant one-member sentences of the
modern linguists are studied. The debatable questions, concerning the unification of the kinds of the one-member
sentences in modern syntax, in particular taking into account the infinitive sentences, are identified. Particular
attention is focused on the definition of typological and functional potential of one-member sentences in the
language of media, scientific, artistic and poetic texts
