Abstract

The article deals with the problem of decision making in translation. The aim of the research is to describe the
process of translation in terms of heuristics, understood as the optimal way of finding solutions on the basis of
both logic and intuition. To this end we analyzed different types of heuristics (heuristics of labyrinth, blind search,
trial-and-error, representativeness and uncommonness) in the framework of translation. As a material translators’
notes and recollections which expose their decision making rationale were used.
