Abstract

The article focuses on the general principles of positional conditions of vowel phonemes realization in
modern German within a word. Statistical study of positional conditions of the vowel phonemes confirms their positional coupling within words and reveals a mechanism of phoneme subordination to segmental organization of
a word in general. It is also confirmed that the level of phoneme activity is determined by phonetic and
syntagmatic-paradigmatic properties of the positions in which the phonemes function.
