Abstract

The article deals with research and description of the use of Subjunctive Mood as one of the morphological
means of down-toning in the discourse of the European Parliament. In the discourse of parliamentary debates the
Subjunctive Mood, indicating the unreality of action as the opposition to the Indicative Mood, is used as a means
of moderation of expression to show parliamentary etiquette, politeness and correctness, with the need to convey
their attitude in the most vague and indeterminate form.
