Abstract

The article deals with the semantic peculiarities of substandard nouns denoting people according to their
interpersonal relationships in modern English. The emphasis is laid on semantics of the units which are
complicated by additional semantic and connotative meanings. In the course of the research 6 semantic groups
have been distinguished. The set of the main semantic components of the group have been determined by means of
the componental analysis. The frequency characteristics of subgroups under discussion and their productivity
have been analysed.
