Azovtseva S. Сommentary on the Holy Ascension by Antony Radivilovski as an example of a baroque sermon

Abstract

The present article gives a brief description of two periods in the history of Ukrainian sermon. It defines the
most prominent works of the XVII century which exerted the major influence on the formation of this genre and
analyzes structural, artistic and stylistic features of the Commentary on the Holy Ascension by Antony
Radivilovski. According to Teun A. van Dijk’s theory, the sermon must be analyzed as a macrostructure. The
theory allowed revealing and analyzing the modifications used in the homily.
