Panchyshyn M. Synonymy in the Ukrainian medical terminology of Halicia in the early 20th century

Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of functioning synonyms in medical terminology of Halicia in the early
20th century. The relevance of the article has been caused by the lack of the detailed research of synonyms of
medical terms of the mentioned period. The aim of the article is to systematize synonymous relations in the
medical terminological system of Galicia. The problem of the appearance and classification of synonyms in the
terminological medical vocabulary is analyzed. Special attention is paid to the synonymous variance of medical
equivalents and significance of the Ukrainian lexemes. The role of the correlation of medical synonyms in
Ukrainian terminological system is observed. The research is done on the material of popular science issues and
dictionaries of Galicia of the given period
