Tsolin D. V. Syntax and metaphor in the poetic text

Abstract

This article is concerned with correlation between metaphor and syntax in poetic discourse in two types of
versification – the archaic parallel verse which is oriented to certain syntactic models, and later verse patterns
which are not bound to syntactic structures. The Biblical Hebrew poetry and its paraphrases in the Aramaic and
Jewish liturgical poetry in the Aramaic of the 4-th – 8-th centuries have been chosen as research materials. The
conclusions of the article concern the theory of poetical syntax and realization of metaphor at the level of syntax.
