Abstract

The article deals with the semantic peculiarities of the modern German noun “Freude” in the context of
fictional prose. The use of the analyzed lexical item points at objectification of a basic emotion of joy, which is
activated, according to empiric material, with an anthroposphere and artifacts. The anthroposphere has been
viewed through the logical relationship „the part‟ (biosphere) and „the whole‟ (all human beings on the Earth in
the total), and the artifacts have been viewed through the logical-objective relationship „the whole‟ (a man as a
demiurge) and „the part‟ (a household item). Two types of emotional feeling of joy – positive and negative – have
been selected. A positive feeling, likewise a negative one, is connected with either linguistic or stylistic context and
is represented with analytical constructions. Both a real and an irreal semantic meanings of the noun “Freude”
have been investigated; a lexical-semantic potential of the noun “Freude” has been instantiated. Wider textual
semantics of the noun “Freude”, as compared to its dictionary semantics, has been proved.
