Abstract

The article deals with analysis of Ivan Dniprovsky (Shevchenko)’s translator activity, namely his RussianUkrainian translation of novel “The War” (1933) written by M. Tykhonov. The Ukrainian language vocabulary of
the early 30th of the XXth century is analyzed. Common vocabulary and specific military vocabulary is analyzed
in comparative aspect. Different language levels (phonetic, morphological, syntactical) are being investigated
when analyzing the vocabulary. Materials of this article can be used for further study and systemizing Ukrainian
vocabulary, compiling any dictionaries, and also as illustrations for “Linguistic Analysis of a Text” subject.
