The paper considers the way lingual and extra-lingual facts affect the agonal nature of the speech act of
appeal in political discourse. It summarizes and concretizes the notion of appeal in linguistics, determines its
correlation with the genre of slogan. The author focuses upon the communicative role of addressee and names
definite, indefinite and presupposed types of addressee. The analysis of the pragmatic role of performer has
singled out its inclusive and exclusive types. The semantic structure of appeal has got some specification. The
semantic typology of the predicate has found out malefactive character of motivated actions, aimed to overthrow a
political opponent. Among the facts, which predetermine agonal feature of appeal, the author names solidarity,
malefactive character of actions, the object of aggression as an obligatory component and illocutive syncretism.
