Abstract

The main goal of the article is to define the temporal conjuctions that can point to the beginning of an action
and to compare their influence on semantics of the whole sentence in Ukrainian and German languages. The
research is carried out on the basis of the analysis of literature works in these two languages. The results of the
investigation show that there are two groups of conjuctions to be distinguished: 1) conjuctions that may actualize
the meaning of beginning of an action in the main clause and 2) conjuctions that may actualize the semanticts of
beginning of an action in the subordinate clause. A small quantity of examples that were found shows that
temporal conjuctions are situated on the periphery of the functional-semantical microfields of beginning of an
action in Ukrainian and German. But while subordinate clauses of time in Ukrainian don't change verbal meaning
and just localize the action on the time axis and have the ability to strengthen the meaining of beginning that is
expressed by a verb or verbal construction, the non-bounded verbs of the classes of actions and states in German
may describe the bounded situation pointing to the beginning of a long or momentary action with the help of the
temporal conjuctions and the wider contex
