Hosudarska O. V. Сritical analysis of classical translation models
Keywords:
classical translation model, universality, adequacy of translation, interpretation, written translation, communicatively relevant information.Abstract
This article offers the analysis of classical translation models (theory of formal and dynamic equivalence,
theory of regular correspondences, informational translation theory, situational and denotative model, functional
and pragmatic model, theory of equivalence levels, interpretive theory) to determine their advantages and
disadvantages and to form on their basis such a translation model that would have a universal use in both oral
and written translation of texts of different genres. The authors of the abovementioned models emphasize the
importance of adequate transmission of communicatively relevant information during the translation, but do not
provide clear answers to the question: how to identify relevant elements of the content, how the process of the
reproduction of reality fragments found in the original text is realized, and the most importantly is how to create a
universal translation model.
