Abstract

The article reviews the interpretation of the role and functions of color in the theater and drama, emphasizing its actualization in the era of modernism. The main attention is paid to the conceptualist peculiarities of the color code as a factor in Ukrainian postmodern drama poetics, particularly in works by Pavlo Arie, Yaroslav Vereshchak, Neda Nezhdana, Igor Lipovsky. With the help of colors, the authors mark certain ideas, resort to irony, play, provocations, etc. The interpretation of conceptualist color system requires the active involvement of cognitive tools. An example of the play «The Difference» by Artem Vyshnevsky proves the consistency of its artistic conception with the issues of the M. Heidegger's hermeneutics works and the theory of post-reality by J. Baudrillard. The language of the colors in the play provides intellectual feeding for understanding the life of the artist in the world of simulacres, which determines the danger of its degradation.
