History of journal
The history of the journal “Filolohichni Traktaty” dates back to the foundation of the scientific journal “Visnyk of Sumy State University” in 1994. Back then the journal was issued twice a year and included 5 sections:
- Natural Sciences: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics;
- Mechanical Engineering, New Technologies;
- Automation, Electronics, Instrument-Making;
- Biology, Medicine;
- Economics, Social and Humanitarian Sciences.
The position of the editor-in-chief was held by the Rector of the University, professor Ihor Oleksandrovych Kovaliov. Pro-rector for Research, assistant professor Volodymyr Andriiovych Khvorost was his assistant.
The University was developing and its main scientific journal was making confident steps of upgrowth together with it. Its popularity was increasing among the educational and scientific institutions of Ukraine. The authors from all Ukraine published their articles in it.That resulted in a considerable increase of the scientific journal. Since 2001 “Visnyk of Sumy State University” has been issued 12 times a year. At the same time, the journal included 6 series and every publication revealed some special topic. Since 2007 each series has got its status of a specific edition with the corresponding title:
- “Visnyk of SumDU. Philology Series”
- “Visnyk of SumDU. Medicine Series”
- “Visnyk of SumDU. Economics Series”
- “Visnyk of SumDU. Technical Sciences Series”
- “Visnyk of SumDU. Physics, Mathematics and Mechanics Series”.
Doctor of Philology, professor of the Department of Translation Shvachko Svitlana Oleksiivna became an editor-in-chief of the journal “Visnyk of SumDU. Philology Series”, which appeared twice a year at that time. Her assistant editors-in-chief were Candidate of Philology, associate professor Kobiakova Iryna Karpivna and Candidate of Philology, associate professor, head of the Department of Journalism and Philology Tkachenko Olena Hrygorivna.
The journal was included in the list of the subscribed periodicals of Ukraine (index 988772). The abstracts of the papers, published in the journal, were submitted to the abstract edition “Dzherelo”. There were on-line versions of the journal on the website of SumDU and Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine.
In 2009 due to new official requirements for the scientific journals and the necessity to train academic staff in Philology within SumDU, it was decided to establish a collaborative journal of Sumy State University and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University – the scientific journal “Filolohichni Traktaty”.
The editorial board, headed by Doctor of Philology, professor Tkachenko Olena Hrygorivna, has been renewed fundamentally.
In 2019 the journal was converted to new platform Open Journal Systems.
