Zhylenko I. «Hazy distance of the future»: anti-utopia in Mykhail Artsybashev and Volodymyr Vynnychenko’s works

Abstract

The article analyses M. P. Artsybashev and V. K. Vynnychenko’s works during the emigration period. There is
a comparative-typological collation of the story «Under the Sun» and novel «Solar Car», created in the antiutopia genre. Negative authors’ attitude to Bolshevistic power is emphasized. Attention is paid to some artistic
devices, use of naturalistic elements to depict the crowd and pictures of apocalypse due to the catastrophes of the
world level. Similar motives and symbols, used by the writers for the detection of the main human needs, are
traced. There are questions as to the role of the power and future dangers to life of the mankind.
